Having gone through the process of going from brown to blonde I thought I'd give you guys a little rundown of my haircare routine/stuff what I'm using and that! I plan to do another two more posts on styling and deep conditioning products so you've got a little series, if I did everything in one it would be the most ridiculously long post ever!
Redken Extreme Shampoo: When I first went blonde this was my go to range for haircare. As we all know bleach is really damaging for your hair as it strips, weakens and brakes the hair shaft. So how can you counteract this? With a protein based shampoo and conditioner or conditioning treatment. This range from Redken contains the most amount of protein they offer, so great for strengthening the hair and maintaining its health through the bleaching process. Don't use a protein range forever though as your hair can become brittle, so once you feel your hair is at optimum strength, move on to something more conditioning like
Redken All Soft or
Pureology Hydrate.
Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Shampoo: I absolutely love the Pureology range. Every product smells amazing and they are all zero sulphate. If colour preservation is your main concern this is a great range, for both chemical and natural colour. Along with the environment, sulphates are a big reason our colour breaks down and fades so no sulphate shampoos are a great way of protecting against colour fade and dullness, especially great if your tones are red based or a colour that fades super quick. Some may be skeptical of zero sulphate shampoos as they are famous for not foaming up, like the
Wen cleansing conditioner, but fear not, this range foams up a treat so that feeling we associate with being clean hasn't been sacrificed and you really feel like the product is cleansing the hair and scalp. It's also really nourishing for the hair and this specific one helps to strengthen and add shine. It has a slight blue tint but this really just helps to add shine and keep your colour looking fresh rather than toned. Not blonde? I can highly recommend the
Hydrate and
Essential Repair range depending on your concern, both absolutely amazing ranges, I especially love the smell of the Essential Repair one.
Provoke Touch of Silver Shampoo: This is a blonde specific product. Sick of those brassy, yellow tones that build up between appointments? Apply this as your second shampoo and leave for a few minutes to freshen up those ash tones, or if your white blonde, apply on dry hair for a gorgeous lilac wash. The most amazing thing about this product? The price, for £3.09 it stands over and above ones I've used in salon for a snip of the price.
Aesop Calming Shampoo: I did a rather extensive post on this product
here but I just wanted to mention it again as it's such a great product for dry, irritated scalps. Yes it's expensive, but if used as a second shampoo you need hardly any and it really works to soothe an irritated and dry scalp, especially great this time of year when central heating and cold temperatures can wreak havoc with our heads!
Redken Extreme Conditioner: As with the shampoo, I had to mention this as for a while it was my ride or die, and a great alternative to my next mention if you're on a budget but want a hair product that works.
Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Conditioner: This really is pretty luxe in terms of its price but it does work. I find this to be a really light but nourishing conditioner. Saying that, don't be put off if you prefer something rich, I just stress that it's light as I know some may think Ojon is a really heavy range and will leave your hair lank and lifeless. Yes some products are heavy but this isn't one of them. Truly universal in how it cares for damaged hair, whether it be fine or coarse, and you really don't need too much.
So there you have it, keep a look out for my other haircare posts coming up soon and I hope this has been helpful!
I would love to know what products you love for cleansing and conditioning.
