The quest for the perfect foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear

If you read my post on Nars Sheer Glow you will have seen me mention this product. I am on the hunt for my perfect foundation and so have decided to do this little series for my blog mainly so I can have an excuse to test new foundations! but also to give you guys a really good review as well as colour spectrum, as upon researching foundations, I found it really hard to find a good meaty blog post with decent swatches as well as shade comparisons to popular brands.

And the next foundation in my quest is the cult fav Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. Now, I know this may not seem seasonally appropriate as it's technically summer but, the weather has been rubbish bar a few days so I still need as much coverage as poss, especially at work!

Now I have actually tried Estee Lauder Double Wear before but I was originally matched with the wrong colour and so it didn't really catch on. I then bought the right colour but again, I was so into my MAC Studio Fix Fluid and just didn't really bother to change. To this day I don't know why as Estee Lauder...miracle worker!

From bottom to top: Nars Sheer Glow in Deauville (mistakenly matched) MAC SFF in NC20, Nars Sheer Glow in Fiji (correct match) Estee Lauder Double Wear in 2W1 Sand

I used this image in my Nars post and am including it again as I just think it's really useful for a shade match. You can see the Estee Lauder looks as if it's the darkest shade but it's actually a really good match for me, not too pink and not too yellow.

So I'll just give you a quick summary, up until a few months ago all I used was MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC20. I used this for years but was never very happy with it but for some reason, I just never replaced it! I guess I just thought, ergh that's how my skin is as well as not wanting to stray the protective MAC bubble, as I had been using MAC for so long I didn't want to spend loads on a new foundation brand I was unfamiliar with, even if MAC wasn't working, going to another brand just seemed like too big a step!

But luckily I plucked up the courage and went for it. I have really oily skin and find MAC Studio Fix Fluid oxidises horribly, goes patchy and is NOT long lasting at all, a couple hours at best. It also makes my blusher go patchy and is just awful on my skin so I finally thought, enough is enough, there must be something better out there! So with my oiliness in mind I thought I have to try Double Wear, if for nothing else but it's long lasting ability!

And in conclusion...I love this foundation! I wear it every single day. Occasionally I powder over the top with my bareMinerals foundation just for piece of mind, as well as top up with it throughout the day if I need to, as it's great for freshening up my makeup at the end of the day. But yes, even without powder this foundation is great for all day coverage, the finish is flawless on me and it really helps to control my oil throughout the day. It's pretty heavy so if you want a natural, dewy finish, this isn't for you, it does look like you're wearing make up but, it is really blendable and for me, this is perfect as I know it'll last all day. I apply it with my beloved Real Techniques Buffing Brush and all my other makeup, bronzer/blush/powder/highlighter applies beautifully over the top, I really am such a huge fan of Estee Lauder Double Wear.

So my search isn't over, there's still a few other foundations I'm keen to try but, I think this will become my go to everyday foundation with my other trials swapped in and out depending on the weather and my skin condition/tone etc. I really do feel like I will always be coming back to this.

Have you tried Estee Lauder Double Wear?
